Please tell us something about yourself:
My name is Dr Clint Rogers and I am a chiropractor in my hometown of Covington, Tn. I am married to Jerica Rogers and we have 3 amazing children, Ethan, Bailey, and Henry. I have been a chiropractor now for almost a decade, but only a full business owner for 3 years.
Can you please tell us the story behind how have you decided to be a chiropractor?
What made me want to become a chiropractor? Well, all through my high school and college career I played football, and as you can imagine, I incurred quite a few injuries over my time. What opened my eyes to being a chiropractor was the last injury that I had, while playing at the University of Memphis, was an injury that could have possibly ended my career. I went into multiple different doctors offices ranging from medical, to orthopedic, to even neurological, and, after receiving news that I would possibly have to sit out my remaining year or two of football, I ultimately went to see a chiropractor and the chiropractor that I went to basically had me back up and running and playing at full tilt and at a hundred percent within just a couple of weeks. That in and of itself is really what made me think hard and heavy as to becoming a chiropractor. Along with that, the opportunity alone to be able to help people without necessarily having to use all the different types of medications and surgeries, and all these other different types of medical avenues really just kind of set-in stone for me to becoming one!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way?
Making the transition from being an associate doctor, employee, to owning and operating my own business has definitely been challenging, and there had been a few times where I had thought about just closing shop and going back to working for someone again. So there have been hard times and hard lessons learned, but the one thing that kept me going was the support of my family and mentors! Finding and having the right people around you makes all the difference in the world. In retrospect I can’t say that it has been easy, but I can wholeheartedly say that I would make this decision again 100%. Knowing what I know now, I would do things different, for example taking certain classes in business medical management and billing courses earlier in the process of opening my business versus when I did eventually take them! Plus, other a few things like insurance coding as well as marketing would have made my transition a ton smoother!
Tell us about your BIGGEST DREAM? Would you say that you are living inside that dream or did you pivot and created a new dream?
My biggest dream is to be THE doctor that everyone thinks to come see first! And as I say this, I can honestly say that that dream is becoming more and more of my reality! That’s not to say that there are some things that I obviously can’t work on, for instance broken bone and open wounds, but the fact that people do call me and talk to me about issues that they are having first before going to a different doctor because they trust me and believe in what I do definitely lets me know that I am creating an impact in our healthcare! Now has there been times where I had to pivot and refocus? Most definitely! Will I most likely have to pivot again? Yes, but it is all in the mode of achieving what I want to accomplish!
Was there any risk you have taken?
Apart from wanting to become a chiropractor, I would most definitely have to say the biggest risk I took, was stepping out on my own, and opening my own business. I had had no previous training on how to open a business, nor the internal workings of fully building and maintaining a business in and of itself. Now before opening my office, I had run two different high-volume style practices that saw hundreds of patients a week, but even in doing that I was still green with the actual business side of that. So, when the opportunity arose for me to be able to do this on my own, I definitely hesitated…. I had to do a lot praying and consulting before I ultimately decided to take the leap of faith. God has definitely blessed me and my family and is continuing to bless us in this venture and in doing so is beginning to open other possibilities that will involve risks of their own! And I can say that I am actually excited to see how some of those possibilities will unfold!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
This is a great question because truthfully there are so many things! My wife and my kids have to be at the top! When I come home, they are always there ready to put a smile on my face! Another big piece of happiness comes from being able to help my patients live a more healthy life. Having seen quite a few of my patients come in on their first visit absolutely in pain with such a negative outlook, to, in some cases, literally walking out of my office that same visit with a smile and relief makes me ecstatic! And then simply spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with my family and friends! There are more but I would have to say that these would be at the top!
Any advice you can give to our readers on how did you grow your clientele?
I get emails all the time from marketers on how if I do this and pay them this it will guarantee x-number of patients a month. And I know of some docs that have been tempted enough to try them all with the same result…. waste of time, money, and stress! The most effective and the most tried and true way to grow your practice or business is by word of mouth! Helping one person can lead to them referring two and those two refer one or two and so on and so forth! Over 90% of my practice is referral based! And this even role over into social media! Most people young and old have something like Facebook or Instagram and are using these platforms for word-of-mouth referrals. I use my social media, not as much as I should, to boost my brand and that has also helped me grow! There is an immediate short term downside to word of mouth though…it takes time and patience!!! LOTS AND LOTS of patience! BUT word of mouth referrals, long term, provide you with quality returning customers and through those referrals you see that it continues to compound each and every time someone walks through the door.
